Receipts and proof codes

Every settled debt gets a receipt with a code anyone can check.

Every challenge carries a receipt code, and every settled debt of honour can be checked against it. It is what makes "I paid that off weeks ago" something you can show rather than claim.

The code

Nine characters, shown in three groups — for example K7F-3MQ-X2W. It belongs to the challenge, not to either side of it.

When you look a code up, the spelling does not matter: upper or lower case, with or without the dashes. The alphabet deliberately leaves out the characters people mix up, and a typed I or O is read as 1 and 0.

Checking a code

The code is printed on the receipt cards together with a QR code. Scanning it opens a public check page that confirms:

  • the code itself,
  • when the claim was made,
  • when it was decided,
  • and the current status.

That is all it shows. No claim text, no names, no evidence — a code that ends up in a group chat or on a printed slip cannot leak the content of a challenge. Older receipts still carry their original ITY-… number; those remain resolvable and the check page shows the earlier number as well.

Settling a debt

The loser records how the debt was settled — a donation, something bought, a photo of the moment, or simply in person — and can add a note. The winner then confirms it. If the winner says nothing, the debt is confirmed automatically once its window has passed, so a settled debt does not stay open forever because someone forgot to tap.

Cards for sharing

Win, debt of honour and settlement each come as a card you can post — square for a feed, upright for a story. The cards are only retrievable by the two people involved in the challenge; a link handed to anyone else does not open them.
